That '2012 in Review' meme...

1. What did you do in 2012 that you'd never done before?
Gym! Running! Lost weight specifically from 93 kilos to 87 kilos! Sung a solo at a wedding! (albeit brief). Came off brain meds! etc.

2.Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Pfft resolutions.

3.Did anyone close to you give birth?
Many births in the dancing scene. :)

4.Did anyone close to you die?
Not that I know of. I haven't checked them all though.

5.What countries did you visit?
New Zealand? That counts as a country right.

6.What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?
Towards the end of 2012 I fell off the wagon a bit mental-health wise, but I'm already working hard on that again. Self-confidence maybe? But that'll come naturally in time if I keep doing healthy things.

7.What date from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I would need to have a memory.

8.What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Fitness-related stuff I'd say.

9.What was your biggest failure?
Some mental-discipline related things.

11.What was the best thing you bought?

12.Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My god, all of my friends. The ones that visited me in hospital, Adil for supporting me and getting me through the last week of Winter school without killing myself.

13.Whose behaviour made you appalled and/or depressed?
Quite a few choristers. One dancer. One of neither.

14.Where did most of your money go?
Eating out, which has since been reduced.

15.What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Supanova was pretty high up there. KITTEN. Um, probably other stuff.

16.What song will always remind you of 2012?
Probably whatever we sang at IV.

17.Compared to this time last year, are you:
i.happier or sadder?
This time last year I was pretty much a zombie, so I count that as a win.
ii.thinner or fatter? See above. Weight loss while maintaining physical strength, so I'm doing pretty well.
iii.richer or poorer? Way poorer, working on it.

18.What do you wish you'd done more of?
Hobbies and practicing stupid tricks. Never enough time :) Mental discipline.

19.What do you wish you'd done less of?
Sometimes maybe video games, but that seems to be going okay.

20.How did you spend Christmas?
Morning with theladylillith's grandparents and family, day with the kitten, dinner with my family, and evening with accrues Boy, Casey, playing D&D. Pretty much the best Christmas ever.

Heck I don't know. I watched a lot of tv. 30 Rock, Dexter, True Blood, Angel, Buffy wait this goes on quite a while.

24.Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Hate's a lot of effort. I'm no longer friends with a few people. Some others I'm going to avoid a lot more than I used to having had a few reminders of their persona or something.

25.What was the best book you read?
Um the first Game of Thrones book and I'm only halfway through it #embarrassed

Effortless emotional stability. :)

29.What was your favourite film of this year?
The Avengers!

30.What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

31.What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
One million dollars.

32.How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011?
Pants. Oh I got a couple of waistcoats and they make me 35% sexier or something.

33.What kept you sane?
Time and effort and the ability to not attribute sanity-granting to some external source.

34.Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Oh. Um. Oh, Felicia day maybe? She's pretty cute.

35.What political issue stirred you the most?
I'm sure there were some but nothing springs to mind at the moment.

Hmm. My oldest friend maybe? Maybe things will pick up now.

Not bad. I feel like I'm building up to something. :)
04 January 2012 @ 03:23 pm
1. What did you do in 2011 that you'd never done before?
Housey things.
Paid bills I've never heard of.
Called a late-night electrician.
Genocided a bunch of bird mites.

Got promoted.
Exercised consistently for a couple of months (and counting).

Made friends on twitter
Went to Perth (for more than just a day for work)

Started D&D playing with friends

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Geographically speaking, a mate at work now has a babby.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

5. What countries did you visit?

6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
Hmm. Toughie. I can't think of anything I particularly want.

7. What date(s) from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
An early AUCS camp. PIV. Bits and pieces here and there after that.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Slowly making my way through a Masters
Dancing twice a week fairly consistently.
Fixing a lot of things I'd lost for myself.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Certainly a couple of things I regret but nothing worth mentioning.

10. Did you suffer any illness or injury?
Can't remember anything so they can't have been that bad.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Everything D&D-related. Anything fuzzy for cravatfiendor theladylillith.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Oh god. Many friends doing good things for themselves, very proud of theladylillithin particular. The fact that she is now going to the gym most of the time, looks gorgeous, works in a job she loves for pretty decent cash, has managed her mental stuff hugely and grown into a pretty confident woman is pretty awesome.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
No one really.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Mortage. Duh. Bills. Then groceries. Petrol's up there. The joys of being an adult.

Then video games and D&D to compensate. But the D&D room looks awesome.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Taking cravatfiendto her first IV. Every single dance lesson. Christmas, just so I could see the reactions in the girls' faces. The Halloween party. Probably more stuff I've forgotten.

16. What song will always remind you of 2011?
Every Gaga song. Um. Every piece of dance music I've gotten since I started dancing more frequently.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Happier.
ii. thinner or fatter? Fatter, I think slightly IIRC. :) I'm working on it. I can also throw theladylillitharound much more easily, and the pushups I do every couple of days are getting easier and more, so hopefully there's some muscle in there.
Also I feel much better about being naked these days.
iii. richer or poorer? Slightly poorer I think. If i don't count assets.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Dancing, I think. Missed out on some things I wish I hadn't.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Eating. ;)

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Morning carolling at the Adelaide Rowing Club as always. Stopover at theladylillith's grandparents' house and then lunch with the extended family. The night was spent with the girls and presents :)

21. Who did you spend the most time on the phone with?
I think I spent the most time on the phone to Internode some time in the middle of the year. Can't think of another time I made a phone call. On skype all the time to accrues's twitter friends.

22. Did you fall in love in 2011?
Maybe :D

23. How many one-night stands?
None, technically.

24. What was your favourite TV program?
I watched far too much TV. Community was pretty high up there. The stuff that got me through the early part of the year was the Major Spoilers Critical Hit podcast :)

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

26. What was the best book you read?
I can safely say I did not read a single book this year and with that revelation I accept that I am a terrible person. This includes text books.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Gaga? :) I don't know. So much more pop music on my phone than there used to be though. If it's bundled with Slipknot it's not technically camp though *nodnod*. Anything that makes me dance involuntarily at work is good.

28. What did you want and get?
Hmm. A great chunk of self-confidence back. The way this question is stated makes it seem like it's something I have no control over :) There is a lot of relationship-related stuff that is not interesting to anyone else but there's a lot stuff in there that I haven't experienced before and It's good to have.

29. What did you want and not get?
I can't really think of anything in particular.

30. What was your favourite film of this year?
Ditto naturalredhead: Kung Fu Panda 2

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 29. Um. I have a memory like a sieve. I'm sure it was pretty awesome though.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Er. I don't know?

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011?
Um. I think I bought two shirts. They are slim fit. They fit better than my regular shirts. This was surprising to me. Does that count?

34. What kept you sane?
Me. Duh. With some prodding from theladylillithto help myself when I'm being a moron.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

36. What stirred you the most?

37. Who did you miss?
Extended AICSA peeps. Members of MonUCS I won't see for a while. Catherine in the US.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Many AICSA freshers. You know who you are. Never really spoke to <lj user="cravatfiend"/> much before this year, does that count? Technically I first met her a few years ago but I was naked and busy. I always thought she hated me so we never spoke much after that :)

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011:
Oh god. Hmm. Nothing really, just learned to be a bit more realistic at times :)

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Oh god no.
30 August 2011 @ 08:50 am
One day someone is going to walk in on me spinning in the bathroom/bathroom hall. I'm going to need an excuse. Any suggestions?

Edit: I forgot. Awesome thing happened last night - someone learned that cravatfiend was dating us and invited her to a party because she was our partner. Accepting people are awesome.
29 August 2011 @ 12:26 pm
I'd like to take five minutes to talk about how awesome my players are.

accrues plays Raiann - a humanoid blue dragon ardent, the only diplomatic person in the group, often the voice of reason and the sole reason everyone gets to stay alive. Apparently has a very strong romantic interest in a cute half-elf that I created on a whim.

Mr accrues plays Nazadak - a half-elf warlock, whose source of power is the Jabberwock. His pact has created far too much trouble for his friends. He's also none-too-subtle about trying to get into Naivara's pants. Controls massive amounts of destructive power that he uses to fire warning shots past bad guys and into walls and never actually hits.

Mr eledhwen_20 plays Vallo - a githyanki swordmage with a ridiculous sword, incredibly impulsive on occasion. Has no real attachment to the rest of the team but sticks around for his own benefit, and keeps them safe because they can't do it themselves. Is sick of Nazadak's shit.

theladylillith plays Naivara - a fancy pants elf illusionist. She's incredibly stubborn, a tad spoilt, very self-centred, but always willing to help out. All-too-often goes on whiney rants about whatever it is that's annoying her at the present time. Likes to make people walk off cliffs.

Recurring characters:

cravatfiend occasionally shows up as Jin, the changeling Assassin - used to work for an evil god but kind of pissed him off and now she's out to stab some guy that betrayed her.

I've been having a lot of fun in the game, it's a shame we don't get to play as often, but we are all sadly quite busy. I think I honestly have the most free time out of anyone, and even that gets in the way sometimes.

After our session on Saturday I went and helped out at the Ceroc dance workshop (progress to intermediate) as they were like 3 guys under (which almost never happens). cravatfiend was there too, so I got to dance with her on occasion.

After that was the dance party - about twice as large as last time I'd gone. I think I danced with about 8 different people of differing ability - freyaw was busy being cool in Sydney (hope it went well). cravatfiend got some time to stay over on Saturday (theladylillith was working most of the weekend, poor thing).

On Friday I did some much needed cleaning (after theladylillith made such a good example during the week) and there are areas of the house that are clean for the first time since we moved in. Apparently bleach is really toxic and bad for your eyes and lungs!

On Sunday I killed my brain with True Blood, Deus Ex and Witcher 2.

Also, I have 7.6kg until I reach my goal weight. :D (Started at 12.9kg)

It's been a while.

Life is pretty fantastic in general.

We're back into dancing, which I really missed. Nikki even said that it was awesome I was back because some days there's only one person that's worth dancing with there (freyaw 's partner, obviously :). That made good feelings.

We've just started Carmina, which is awesome if mindless. We have so many more freshers! Apparently we're expecting 95 singers this week. We've already latched onto some freshers and they seem to be having fun.

Perth was fantastic. It was the most fun I've ever had at an IV before. It was also the least dodgy IV I've ever had. These things may correlate. I think it also helped that compared to other IVs, I've often been part of some kind of controversy, or there's been some around, and I didn't feel that this time. So many wonderful people, new, interesting people, and old friends I've wanted to reconnect with for an age.

I went on Saturday with cravatfiend . It was fun - she dressed up all hot-like (in the same style as she was on the opening night of PIV? I think...) and we made fun of people and looked at all the awesome costumes. I got her a companion cube, and since theladylillith  could not come because of her work (she has been working so hard!) I got her a GIANT TEPIG.

Sunday was D&D. I have so much fun doing this. I think it's fun for me because:

1) I get to be creative

2) I get to surprise players

3) My players are fucking fantastic and make it interesting for me.

I also get to hang with friends for a few hours. Watching how sad theladylillith  was when her character died was pretty upsetting though :(

30 May 2011 @ 01:51 pm
I wish I was home.
07 May 2011 @ 01:07 pm
I had SO MUCH FUN and my players are awesome.

World, meet Kalarel. I spent 3 hours painting him on Friday. He fought the players later that night.

More awesomeness behind cutCollapse )
22 March 2011 @ 09:58 am
Apparently I can carry theladylillith with one arm again. My body is fun.
19 March 2011 @ 01:26 pm
Last night was a lot of fun. Aislinn was taking us through an ancient athasian temple. We killed some nasty-looking undead things in the temple, and grognak went a little crazy hearing the voices of the dead. Everyone in the party is pretty damn cautious so grognak tried his best to be the voice of impulsiveness, "accidentally" triggering traps a couple of times. The party ran into another group, trying to achieve the same goal as us. Grognak did not manage to appease the other group with his offering of a decapitated head, but War Machine managed to talk them down and F'taghn convinced them that we'd actually split whatever rewards we came across.

In the next epic battle, fought over a big pit, in which the psion really shone, throwing all the monsters into the pit. Grognak did some gladiatorial showboating and threw himself into the pit, but apparently he can't make a 30 foot jump.

At that point our new allies turned on us (with lots of calls of "i told you so" from the psion) and the fight became a mad panic, our batllemind being the brick wall between us and death, our sentinel keeping us alive, and trying not to be pushed into the giant pit.

The psion again focussed on knocking the evil team into the (now monster-filled) hole. Grognak, upon instruction, climbed out, and tried to help.

An epic battle, and we were all very tired at the end (Moreso in real life).

Marketing in mount pleasant right now.

For the first time in umpteen years my phone has been replaced.

I've also lost most of my phone numbers because I stored them on my phone and it's a pain in the arse to turn back on. Send me your number if you want lots of stupid messages with my new phone! :D

Is shiny.

I can connect to *shock* the INTARWEBS.

Also, I got my first MMS today.
